2002 Europe Worlds Report
E-News, March 2002 - Kathryn Crowder, Regatta Director

We Canadians are just thrilled with our Olympic Hockey Teams. Once we all stop smiling we will focus on our International Europe Class World Championships.

Sport Canada, Canadian Yachting Association, Ontario Sailing Association, the City of Hamilton, 6 Nations Indian Reservation, local artists and musicians, everybody, we can?t wait for the international athletes to arrive.

The racing will be in Hamilton Harbour/Burlington Bay. The water is warm, the winds are predominately from the west, and the waves are small. The competitors can get to the racecourse from the dock in 20 minutes. The Notice of Race is complete and the web page is up and running. Please address and questions to our FAQ page or the contacts section.

We would like to encourage the athletes to participate in Canadian Olympic Regatta Kingston, CORK www.cork.org , prior to Open Week. Kingston is east of Hamilton, a 3-hour drive. The Radial Worlds will be at the Buffalo Canoe club in early August, 11/2 hours from Hamilton on Lake Erie. The Youth Worlds will be held in Nova Scotia, Canada?s east coast.

Athletes do bring your families and friends. We have many activities planned for before, during and after the sailing. The Hamilton Naturalist Club has scheduled 3 hikes with interesting guides. The aboriginal artisans will have their carvings, beadwork, and jewelry for sale on the front lawn of the yacht club. Musicians, fire-stilt dancers, life size puppets etc. will perform every day after racing. The Closing Ceremonies, dinner and dancing, will be held in the newly renovated art deco railway station after the last day of racing.

Special rates are available at the Ramada Hotel 10 minutes from the harbour, email info@ramadahamilton.com. A shuttle service is available to and from the waterfront and the Hamilton airport. Please book your accommodation as soon as possible. The rates will increase.
