The theme for the Europe Worlds 2002 is Wind and Water and this theme is represented by our logo which shows a dinghy with an E for Europe speeding across its sail. The logo was designed by well known Canadian graphic artist Barbara Klunder.

The resident photographer Rick Matthews is holed up in a clothes closet near the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club entrance. The first part of his day is spent on the press boat zooming around at 80 km/h from mark to mark to catch the best of the action. At 1500 hrs, he returns to his closet to download and edit the approximately 400 shots he has taken. Some of these shots appear on our official Web site. Others will eventually be used in promotional material and, of course, to adorn the walls of young sailors in far away places.

Lindsey Bladon from Calgary was seen putting some finishing touches to her boat with a hacksaw. She finally escaped the clutches of the measurement committee unscathed and got a wildcard position. One goal achieved for Lindsey.

On Race Day One, wild and windy conditions made for exciting viewing at the marks. Canadian sailor Jeremy Crowder was left behind when his mast pitched over and took a chunk of the deck with it.

The boat of Meg Gaillard of the USA was hit several times and had to have a mid race repair which seemed to involve duct tape and a bit of a draining over the bow of the boat of Luther Carpenter, the American coach.

The boat of Polish competitor Katarzyna Szotynska was hit by an American boat and sustained what first appeared to be minor damage. Just before the repair shop closed up for the day it was discovered that Katarzyna's deck had pulled away from the hull. Bill Souter of the Harbour West Marine Services kindly did six or so hours of careful work to get Katarzyna's boat back to A1 condition for Race Day Two.

The Chinese delegation gave a high-tech presentation of what is to come if they win the bid for the 2005 International Europe Class World Championship. Rizhao is a spotless city of 2.76 million with pristine beaches and impressive sports facilities now under construction. It is located also just one hour away from the birthplace of Confucius and 12 hours from Beijing, the location of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

It seems that Henry Rotsaert, our seed man, has very famous teeth and that all the dentists from far and wide covet Henry?s choppers. I don't get it.
